On the weekend April, 5, 6 and 7 April 2013, the Terradets Gorge became the nerve center of the wall climbing thanks to the “Rally Arc’teryx 12h Climbing Terradets” and the “24h Regina Vertikal Festival“.
According to weather forecast, a gelid weekend was expected in Terradets, but the motivation, enthusiasm and the desire to climb into the towering walls of this gorge, warm up the atmosphere, turning this celebration of big wall climbing into a friendly climber meeting from the most varied places.
The programme began on Friday 5th with a new proposal, the 24h Regina Vertikal Festival. At 7:00 PM, 6 teams began climbing in this first edition of the event. They were 2 teams of 3 and rest of teams formed by 4 climbers. In total, 14 climbers including 2 women participated.
While their headlights showed their slow evolution on a chilly night, the participants in the 12h Rally were arriving from their various localities. Some of them were as far away as Russia, from where three teams arrived representing the three main categories of the rally classification (mixed, men and women).
Meanwhile, the official opening of both Terradets Rallys with the presence of local and regional authorities was being held at the la Lira Theater, in the nearby town of Tremp. Authorities also welcomed the Russian teams represented by Alexandr Pyatnitsin (the representative of the Russian Mountaineering Federation), who expressed interest in organizing a similar event in their country.
Saturday morning dawned chilly, which did not deter the participants in the 12h Rally and the 24 registered teams started the climbing at 8:00 AM. A couple of hours later the sun touched the wall and a nice temperature allowed teams to enjoy their climbing. From the outset, it became clear that the first place would be a tight competition between the Basque (Ekaitz Maiz y Antton Zabala) and Russian (Vladimir Gunko and Pavel Blasenko) teams. Finally, the balance was in favour of the Basque team, also members of the Tech Rock group, and they proclaimed winners of the 4th Rally Arc’teryx 12h Climbing Terradets. The Russian team got the second position, while Jaume Forniol and Juanjo López, members of the Charko team, obtained the third position.
